Dow Delivers Again as Otters Blank Humboldt; Extend Record Unbeaten Streak to Nine

Dow nets ninth goal of the season while Baltazar records another shutout

SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay women's soccer continued its historic run Thursday afternoon, earning a hard-fought 1-0 shutout victory over Cal Poly Humboldt at Cardinale Stadium to extend its program-record unbeaten streak to nine consecutive matches.

The victory improved the Otters to 7-2-6 overall and 5-2-4 in CCAA play, marking their fifth victory during an impressive nine-match unbeaten stretch (5-0-4). Monterey Bay has not suffered a defeat since Sept. 20.

Once again, Juliana Dow provided the offensive spark, scoring her team-leading ninth goal of the season in the 21st minute to give the Otters the only goal they would need.

Dow found the back of the net at 20:58, finishing an opportunity created by Ella Schug, who picked up the assist. The goal marked Dow's third consecutive match with a goal, continuing an impressive offensive stretch that has her ranked tied for fourth all-time in single season goals for the Otters.

Monterey Bay controlled much of the opening half, outshooting Humboldt, 8-3, and generating four corner kicks before the break. Dow was especially active in the attacking third, consistently putting pressure on the Lumberjack defense.

The Otters carried their one-goal advantage into halftime before turning to their defense to preserve the victory.

Goalkeeper Willow Baltazar delivered another outstanding performance between the posts, recording three saves in a full 90-minute effort to secure another clean sheet. Baltazar made two of those stops in the second half as Humboldt attempted to find the equalizer.

The shutout was Monterey Bay's sixth during its nine-match unbeaten streak, a remarkable defensive stretch that has helped fuel the Otters' climb in the CCAA standings.

The back line, anchored by Jada Hardwick and Chloe Van Winkle, who each played all 90 minutes, limited Humboldt to nine total shots and just three on goal. The defensive unit remained composed throughout the second half, preserving the one-goal advantage despite increased pressure from the Lumberjacks.

CSUMB finished with an 11-9 advantage in shots, including a 4-3 edge in shots on goal. Dow led all players with six shot attempts, accounting for more than half of Monterey Bay's offensive opportunities.

The victory continued a remarkable turnaround for the Otters, who have now gone nine straight matches without a loss, establishing a new program standard for consecutive unbeaten contests.

Since beginning the streak with a 2-0 road victory over Cal State San Marcos on Sept. 25, Monterey Bay has recorded five wins and four draws, highlighted by six shutouts and an impressive defensive effort that has limited opponents to just four goals during the stretch.

Thursday's victory also marked the Otters' second consecutive home shutout, following their 2-0 victory over Fresno Pacific on Oct. 15.

The Otters remain at Cardinale Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 25, to host Cal State East Bay in another important CCAA matchup.
