Otters Drop A Nailbiter To Stanislaus, 86-81

Mora scores 24, Reese adds career-high 16

SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal St. Monterey Bay (12-8, 7-7 CCAA) fell to Stanislaus St. (10-10, 6-8 CCAA) 86–81 on Saturday in The Kelp Bed.

Michael Mora led the team with 24 points, making 8 of 11 shots from the field, including five 3-pointers. Ashton Reese contributed a career-high 16 points, converting all seven of his free throw attempts and hitting three shots from beyond the arc. Chol Deng added 10 points while recording three steals and three assists.

The game featured 10 ties and 13 lead changes, with 12 Otter 3-pointers keeping them within striking distance throughout. Despite a strong 19-for-21 performance from the free-throw line, Cal St. Monterey Bay was unable to overcome Stanislaus's 58 points in the paint, which proved decisive down the stretch.
 
CSUMB opened the first half with a quick 6-0 lead following a three-pointer by Joey Bilello and another from Ariya Briscoe. The Warriors quickly responded and the teams exchanged leads throughout the half. The half concluded with Stanislaus's Tahjae Ordonio hitting a three-pointer at the buzzer, giving the Warriors a 45–41 lead.

The game remained close through the second half until Malachai Johnson sank a pair of free throws with 15 seconds left give account for the final points. The Otters couldn't get a shot off with their final possession.

The Otters return to The Kelp Bed to continue their 4-game homestand Thursday (Feb. 5) when Cal Poly Pomona visits. Tip-off will be at 7:30 p.m. as the nightcap of doubleheader action with the Otter women.
