SEASIDE, Calif. — Junior guard
Jaden Tengan (Sacramento/Santa Clarita Christian) poured in 53 points to take over the CCAA scoring lead and earn California Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors for the week ending Jan. 18.
With Tengan's award, this marks the first time in program history that two different Otters earned the honor in the same season. Teammate
Michael Mora (Palo Alto/Univ. of Vermont) picked up the award for the weeks ending Nov. 16 and Dec. 7.
Tengan averaged 26.5 points per game with a sizzling shooting performance that saw him make 11-of-16 (68.8 percent) from 3-point range. He raised his scoring average to 17.9 ppg overall, passing Mora (17.4 ppg) for the top spot in the CCAA scoring race.
Tengan scored 27 points against defending CCAA and West Region champion Cal State Dominguez Hills Jan. 15. He followed that with a game-high 26 points in CSUMB's 96–82 win over Cal State L.A. two days later.
CSUMB returns to action this week with a pair of games in the other Bay Area, beginning Thursday (Jan. 22) at San Francisco State. The Otters will head across the Bay to take on undefeated and No. 5 ranked Cal State East Bay two days later.
Fans who can't make it to the games can catch all of the action live on the
FloSports Network.
The Otters return home to host UC Merced on Jan. 29.
