SEASIDE, Calif. – After being recognized pregame, the senior class also celebrated during and after the match as the Cal State Monterey Bay women's soccer team blanked Chico State, 3-0, Sunday afternoon at Cardinale Stadium.
The shutout was the third of the season for the Otters, as they finished non-conference play with a 2-3-2 record.
The two teams went into the intermission scoreless, but senior
Tiger Rendon promptly got CSUMB in the scoring column just under two minutes into the second half when she buried a pass from
Bailey Rozier.
In the 58th minute, sophomore
Ella Schug dribbled past the Wildcat defensive third and fired far post to give the Otters the 2-0 lead.
Senior
Jaedyn Sanders capped off the scoring in the 66th minute as she finished an assist from
Kamryn Bubak.
The offensive display was impressive, but the goalkeeping from senior
Olivia Wynn and the CSUMB defense stymied Chico State all day long. Wynn was not going to be denied on her Senior Day as she made 10 saves, including several diving stops.
In addition to Wynn, Redon, and Sanders, the Otters also celebrated
Audrey Reyna,
Ariana Palomo,
Danielle Castro,
Marcelina Ramirez, and
Evelyn Sandoval.
The Otters will begin CCAA play on Friday, Oct. 3, as they host Cal Poly Pomona at 4:30 p.m.
