SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer team earned its second straight win by taking down Vanguard University, 4-2, Sunday afternoon at Cardinale Stadium. The victory moves the Otters to 2-2 on the season.
Jose Rios Lara scored a pair of goals and
Sylas Sells and
Omar Arechiga-Martinez found the back of the net to propel the Otters to their highest scoring output of the season.
Sells started the scoring 10 minutes in as he finished off a
Will Seargeant pass for his second goal of the season.
CSUMB added another in the first half when Rios Lara scored his first of two when he bent the net in the 39
th minute from a helper off the foot of freshman
Olof Larsson.
Rios Lara buried his second tally in the 72
nd minute and then Arechiga-Martinez capped off the scoring in the 86
th to hand the Otters the 4-2 win.
Senior
Jerry Godfryd earned his second victory in goal in his second straight start, making three saves as CSUMB outshot Vanguard, 19-15.
The Otters will remain at home to host Cal Poly Humboldt on Thursday, Sept. 25. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
