Home Runs Aplenty In Split With Stanislaus

Alba, Martinez homer, in opener; Perez goes deep in nightcap

SEASIDE, Calif. — The ball was flying out of the Otter Sports Complex Friday as Cal State Monterey Bay and Stanislaus State combined to hit six home runs in a doubleheader split. The Otters took the opener, 9–2, before Stanislaus rallied for a 7–1 win in the nightcap.

Abreanna Alba (Watsonville HS/Cabrillo College) and Nevaeh Martinez (Soquel HS) went yard back-to-back in the first inning of the opener to support the 5-hit pitching of freshman Kadence Nulick (Madera/Buchanan HS). Oli Perez (Ceres HS) hit her fourth of the season in Game. 2

CSUMB put six runs on the board in the first inning of Game 1. Anastacia Alba (Watsonville HS) walked to lead off before her sister hammered a 3–2 pitch to left center for her first homer as an Otter.

Martinez followed with a towering blast that looked like it was hooking foul before hitting the outside edge of the fair pole to make it 3–0 after three batters. RBI singles by Ellie Escalante (Soquel HS) and Kieley Ganaden (North Salinas HS) capped CSUMB's second-biggest inning of the season.

That proved more than enough support for Nulick to earn her fifth win. Nulick allowed a walk and a 2-run homer to McKenna Beach in the fourth inning, but pitched without much trouble otherwise.

Game 2 saw senior Savannah Madrigal (Simi Valley/Chaminade Prep) make just two mistakes, but they both were drilled over the center field fence by Beach to stake Stanislaus to a 2–0 lead through four innings. Freshman Kaitlyn Le (San Ramon/California HS) pitched Madrigal out of a runners on the corners, no-out jam in the fifth, but the Warriors touched her for four in the sixth to put the game away.

CSUMB bats were quiet until the seventh, when Perez led off the inning with a solo shot to left field. But it was the only time they would get to Stanislaus senior Victoria Alarcon, who struck out five and scattered five hits for the win.

GAME 1 WAS OVER WHEN… Kieley Ganaden's 2-run single capped a 6-run Otter first inning.

GAME 2 WAS OVER WHEN… Allejandra Perea's RBI double in the sixth extended the Stanislaus lead to 4–0. The Otters would never get the tying run to the on-deck circle again.

WELCOME TO THE CLUB… Abreanna Alba hit her first home run as an Otter in the first inning of Game 1. She is the sixth different Otter to homer in 2025.

BACK-TO-BACK JACKS… Abreanna Alba and Nevaeh Martinez hit back-to-back home runs in the first inning of Game 1. It's the first time two Otters went back-to-back since Ally Alcayaga and her sister Abby did it against Montana State Billings on Mar. 23, 2024.

A OTTER SIX SPOT: The Otters scored six runs in the first inning of Game 1, their second biggest inning of 2025. They scored seven in a win over Central Washington on Feb. 14.

GAME 1 EXTRA-BASE HITS… DOUBLES: Ellie Escalante (3). TRIPLES: None. HOME RUNS: Abreanna Alba (1), Nevaeh Martinez (3).

GAME 2 EXTRA-BASE HITS… DOUBLES: Abreanna Alba (7). TRIPLES: None. HOME RUNS: Oli Perez (4).

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters and Warriors will conclude their 4-game series with a doubleheader Saturday at noon.
