SAN BERNARDINO – Cal State Monterey Bay junior outfielder
Nick Maestas broke a 5-5 tie in the 11
th inning with a three-run homer to spark an eight-run frame to lift the Otters past Cal State San Bernardino, 13-5, Sunday afternoon at Fiscalini Field.
Maestas, who was a defensive replacement in the ninth inning, took advantage of his lone at-bat, smashing his first career home run in an Otter uniform, clearing the wall in left to help CSUMB avenge yesterday's extra-inning loss.
The Otters kept the pedal to the metal as
Noah Zertuche drove in a pair and
Jaden Sheppard recorded three of his four RBI on the day with a home run to left, bookending the scoring with his second homer of the finale.
CSUMB banged out 12 hits as four Otters tallied multi-hit games. Sheppard went 2-for-4 and scored three times, while
KW Quilici went deep again in a 2-for-5 effort.
Max Farfan also went 2-for-5 and
Jacob Dressler batted 2-for-4 with a pair of runs and RBIs.
In the theme for the entire series the two squads went back-and-forth and for the second straight game the Yotes were able to push the contest to extras.
The CSUMB bullpen shutdown CSUSB in extras as
Jacob Parks earned the win in 1 1/3 innings and
Andrew Kotin closed the door with a perfect 11
th.
The Otters return home to host Cal State Dominguez Hills for a four-game series on Friday, April 4. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 6 p.m.
