SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey bay water polo sent it seniors off on a high note with a 14–7 win over UC Merced Friday afternoon at the Otter Tank.

The match was the final home competition for seniors Abby Delport, Allyson Ainsworth, Meg Gostanian, Brenna Kenney and Autumn Day. Kenney and Day are both juniors athletically, but will be graduating.

"Today's game was a fun way to celebrate our seniors in their last home game," said CSUMB Head Coach Emily Schmit.

The Otters never trailed after Day and Ainsworth scored in the first two minutes to put them on top, 2–0. CSUMB slowly pulled away throughout the match as the pesky Bobcats stayed just close enough to keep things interesting until the fourth quarter.

After Claudette Asenjo scored twice to pull Merced to within 4–3 late in the first quarter, the Otter defense put the clamps down, shutting out the Bobcats over the ensuing 15 minutes. Delport, Annika Harper, Emma Sosa and Stella Martin added Otter goals during that stretch to increase the Otter advantage to 8–3 in the third period. Merced never came closer than four goals the rest of the way.

Martin notched her second hat trick of the season to lead the Otter goal parade. Ainsworth and Katie Rudis added two goals apiece. Ainsworth chipped in three assists to finish the day with a team-leading five points.
Junior Kaya Eaton earned player of the game honors after she scored a goal, recorded a steal and drew a career-high six exclusions.

Freshman Kendra Weaver got the start in goal and recorded double-digit saves for the second time with 10. That was one off her career high of 11 against San Jose State on Feb. 1.

The Otters hit the road for their final three regular season games, beginning Apr. 2 at Biola University. They'll head to Salem, West Virginia for the WWPA Championship Tournament Apr. 25–27.
