Nulick’s Gem Leads Otters To Series Win Over NNU

Otter freshman tossed 5-hitter, fans seven, in 3-1 win

SEASIDE, Calif. — Freshman Kadence Nulick (Madera/Buchanan HS) tossed the best game of her young collegiate career to lead Cal State Monterey Bay to a 3–1 win in the rubber match with Northwest Nazarene University Wednesday afternoon at the Otter Sports Complex.

Nulick threw a complete-game 5-hitter, striking out seven for her third win of the season. She no-hit the Nighthawks for 4 2/3 innings before an infield single spoiled her bid for history.

CSUMB left five runners on base through the first three innings before Kieley Ganaden's (North Salinas HS) sac fly cashed in Ally Alcayaga's (Sonoma Valley HS) leadoff double in the fourth to break the ice. Nevaeh Martinez (Soquel HS) doubled the Otter lead when she bounced a 2-out single through the left side to score Anastacia Alba (Watsonville HS) later in the inning.

NNU touched Nulick for the only time in the sixth when Clarissa Moreno doubled to the gap in left center in front of a bloop single to right by Emma Bumatay. But Jaedyn White's (Fairfield/Rodriguez HS) double resulted in Alcayaga scoring in the bottom of the sixth for what proved to be unnecessary insurance.

THE GAME WAS OVER WHEN… Kadence Nulick fanned pinch hitter Lauryn Bergevin, representing the tying run, for the final out.

ANOTHER DOUBLE FOR ALLY… Ally Alcayaga hit her 47th career double in Wednesday, moving her to within one of Madi Casto for No. 6 on the Otter career doubles list.

A PERFECT 10 FOR ALLY… Ally Alcayaga extended her streak of reaching base safely to 10 games with a pair of hits in Wednesday's win over Northwest Nazarene. It's her second-longest streak as an Otter and her longest since she opened her collegiate career by reaching safely in her first 11 games (Feb. 4–19, 2022).

LUCKY NUMBER 7… Kadence Nulick matched her Otter high with seven strikeouts in Wednesday 3–1 win over Northwest Nazarene. She also fanned seven (in four innings) during a win over Central Washington on Feb. 2.

EXTRA-BASE HITS… DOUBLES: Ally Alcayaga (7), Jaedyn White (2). TRIPLES: None. HOME RUNS: None.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters will host No. 12 ranked an 2024 NCAA Runner-up Western Washington University under the lights Friday (Mar. 28) for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
