Nulick Tosses 3-Hitter, Otters Split With No. 12 WWU

Kadence Nulick allows just lone unearned run in fourth victory

sSEASIDE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay freshman Kadence Nulick (Madera/Buchanan HS) tossed another gem to lead the Otters to a split with No. 12 ranked Western Washington University Friday night at the Otter Sports Complex.

After throwing a 5-hitter Wednesday against Northwest Nazarene, she allowed only three hits and a single unearned run in a 2–1 win to open Friday's doubleheader. The Vikings roared back in the nightcap, riding a pair of 3-run homers to a 13–3, 6-inning win.

The star of the night clearly was Nulick, who allowed just a pair of soft singles and a bloop double. The only run she allowed came thanks to a dropped fly ball in the second inning that gifted Western its lone run.

The Otters tied the game in the fourth when Malia Martin (El Camino College/Warren HS) tripled to plate Nani Arreola (Fillmore/Oaks Christian) from first base. Kieley Ganaden (North Salinas HS) broke the tie when her sac fly cashed in a double by Oli Perez (Ceres HS).

The nightcap got away from the Otters early when a Paris Dellamaggiore's 3-run homer capped a 4-run Viking first. Designated player Emma Andrewjeski added her own 3-run shot in the fourth inning and McKenna Crum delivered the final blow with a bases-clearing double in the sixth.

Freshman Nevaeh Martinez (Soquel HS) did the heavy lifting for the Otter offense, driving in all three runs with a sac fly, a single and her second home run of the season.

GAME 1 WAS OVER WHEN… Kadence Nulick got McKenna Crum to ground right to the bag at first for the final out.

GAME 2 WAS OVER WHEN… McKenna Crum's bases-loaded double extended the WWU lead to 13–3 in the sixth inning.

SHE'S WALKING… Oli Perez drew her 51st career walk Wednesday versus Western Washington. She needs one more to tie Nicole Pires for No. 12 on the career walks list.

OLI DOUBLES UP… Oli Perez doubled in both games Friday versus Western Washington, giving her 35 for her career and passing Courtney Hennings for No. 8 on the Otter career list.

BEATING THE BEST… Friday's 2–1 win over No. 12 Western Washington was CSUMB's third win of the season and 63rd win all-time against nationally–ranked opposition since the program began in 2006. CSUMB is 63–88 all–time against Top 25 opponents.

GAME 1 EXTRA-BASE HITS… DOUBLES: Oli Perez (3). TRIPLES: Malia Martin (1). HOME RUNS: None.

GAME 2 EXTRA-BASE HITS… DOUBLES:Oli Perez (4). TRIPLES: None. HOME RUNS: Nevaeh Martinez (2).

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters continue to face nationally-ranked competition when they visit No. 14 Cal State East Bay for a 4-game series Apr. 4–5 in Hayward.
