Strong Pitching Leads No. 21 SFSU To Sweep

Otters fall 8-0 and 9-4 to open series with Gators

SEASIDE, Calif. — Two strong pitching performances lifted No. 21 San Francisco State to a doubleheader sweep of Cal State Monterey Bay as the teams dodged raindrops Friday at the Otter Sports Complex.
SFSU took the opener 8–0 in six innings before rallying with eight unanswered runs to win the nightcap, 9–4.

The Gators scored the only run they would need without the benefit of a hit in the first inning of Game 1. Kai DeLeon led off with a walk then stole two bases in front of a sac fly from Daniella Guerrera.
They added two runs in the third, single runs in the fourth and fifth and three more in the sixth to close the scoreline.

A Rylee McDaniel home run staked SFSU to a 1–0 lead in the second inning of Game 2. But the Otters responded in the home half, parlaying a walk and three Gators errors into three runs.
Three Otter miscues helped the Gators rally back in front, 4–3, in the sixth inning. They put the game away with a five spot in the seventh.

Nani Arreola (Fillmore/Oaks Christian HS) and Emma Mendoza (Fountain Valley/Edison HS) doubled to lead the Otter offense in Game 1. Jaedyn White (Fairfield/Rodriguez HS) drove in two runs and Abreanna Alba (Watsonville HS/Cabrillo College) doubled home a run in Game 2.

The Otters conclude their 4-game series with San Francisco State Saturday at the Otter Sports Complex. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
