SAN JOSE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team fell, 83–40, on the road at San José State on Thursday night. The Otters stayed within reach early but were unable to keep pace as the Spartans widened the margin in each quarter at the Provident Credit Union Event Center.
Leah Sarabia led CSUMB with 19 points on 8-for-19 shooting and added four rebounds.
Riley Walls contributed four points, three rebounds, three steals and a block, while
A'ajah Slocum added three points, three rebounds and an assist in 36 minutes.
Jayden McNeal provided five points off the bench, and
Aliyah Young scored four points while starting in the frontcourt.
The Otters finished with 30 rebounds and forced 15 Spartan turnovers, turning them into 10 points. CSUMB scored 22 of its points in the paint but struggled from the field at 16-for-61 overall and 3-for-14 from three.
San José State controlled the game with strong interior scoring and rebounding, posting 53 boards and 48 points in the paint. The Spartans also received 40 points from their bench.
The Otters return home to dive back into conference play to face Chico State on Friday, Dec. 19, with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
