SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer team posted its second draw against a ranked opponent in as many matches, playing No. 25 Cal State San Bernardino to a 2-2 draw Sunday afternoon at Cardinale Stadium.
The Otters nearly clawed their way back for the victory, but the Coyotes tied the game in the final minute off a Damian Gonzalez goal at 89:22.
In a physical contest where the two squads combined for nine cards, including two reds and a total of 29 fouls, the teams ended with a point each after the final whistle.
The Yotes opened the scoring in the 17
th minute, but after going down to 10 men, the Otters evened the score six minutes into the second half when
Sylas Sells buried his second goal of the season off an assist from Ramiro Corrales, Jr.
Corrales, Jr. set up the go-ahead goal off a corner kick when he found
Damon Smith far post, who then promptly headed the ball to
Eric Vazquez-Acosta for the finish in the 84
th minute.
The Otters peppered the frame all match long, out-shooting the Yotes, 20-8, putting eight on frame. Vazquez-Acosta and newcomer
Philip Wolny paced CSUMB with three shots apiece.
The Otters will head to Southern California next weekend, returning to the pitch on Friday, Oct. 10, to face Cal State LA. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
