SEASIDE, Calif. – The No. 13-ranked Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team opened the 2025 season with a 4-3 victory over Western Oregon on Friday evening at the Otter Sports Complex.
After a sluggish start, going into the hole 3-0 after the first inning, the Otter bullpen kept the Wolves at bay to help the offense rally and score four runs to earn the victory.
The CSUMB relievers allowed just three hits over the final six innings and did not allow a run, while striking out 13.
Aidan Lee was dominant out of the bullpen, throwing three hitless innings in relief to earn the win. The righthander struck out eight of his 10 batters faced.
Ryan Sleeman pitched two innings and struck out four and
Ryan Io locked down the Wolves in the ninth to earn the save.
Offensively, the Otters drew eight walks and collected six hits but stranded 12 on base.
Jimmy Garcia and
KW Quilici both collected two hits and an RBI, while
Jaden Sheppard drew three walks and had an RBI.
The Wolves jumped out to a quick three-run first-inning lead, but the Otters were able to chip away as they scored one run in the second, a pair in the fourth, and one in the first, taking their first lead of the ballgame en route to the victory.
The two teams will play a doubleheader as first pitch of game one has now been pushed up to Noon.
