Otters Edged in Overtime Against Cougars, 65-61

Doherty and Garrett return for CSUMB

SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team rallied late to force overtime but eventually dropped its CCAA matchup against Cal State San Marcos, 65-61, Thursday evening at the Kelp Bed.

Trailing for most of the contest, the Otters evened the score at 56 when A'ajah Slocum was able to record a hard-fought steal at halfcourt and went the distance with 20 seconds remaining. CSUMB had a look to win the game in regulation after drawing a blocking foul with eight seconds left but could not convert.

The Otters did get relief with the return of top-scorer Ella Doherty and starting guard Sha'nece Garrett from injury. Doherty scored 11 points, while Garrett poured in a game-high 15 points in 35 minutes of action.

Cheyanne Whitfield also scored 15 points, while Jayden McNeal pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds.
