Otters Equalize Late to Post Road Draw

Mason Ward keeps CSUMB unbeaten

SALT LAKE CITY – Cal State Monterey Bay junior Mason Ward scored in the 72nd minute to hand the Otters a 1-1 draw on Thursday evening against host Westminster University at Dumke Field. The Otters move to 1-0-1 on the season.

CSUMB dominated the contest, outshooting the Griffins, 18-5, on their home field and posted four corner kicks.

Ward scored his team-leading third point on the season when he drove home a Kane Ritchie pass on the upper-right side of the frame to give the Otters the hard-fought draw. Ward posted a game-high five shots and put two on goal.

Junior Jerry Godfryd played the entire time in goal and made one save as the CSUMB defense only surrendered five shots on the evening.

THE LAST WORD… " I am really proud of the guys efforts tonight, we played some really good stuff and created some good chances against a resilient Westminster side. Disappointed to not get the win, but always knew how tough it was going to be. We get to play in another tough regional match on Saturday against a good Colorado Mesa side, which will be a different kind of test for us." — CSUMB Head Coach Graeme Jaap

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters continue their Salt Lake City road trip against Colorado Mesa on Saturday, Sept. 14. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m.
