Double-Digit Fourth Inning Leads Otters to Series Lead

CSUMB races past CSULA 11-5

SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay baseball team used a huge fourth inning to secure an 11-5 victory on Friday. The Otters scored 10 runs in the inning to race past the Golden Eagles and improve to 20-11 overall and 16-7 in CCAA play.

JJ Engman collected three hits and scored twice and leadoff man Chase Lindemann drove in three runs.

Ryan Platero (5-1) earned the victory. The right-hander pitched six scoreless innings, allowing three hits and fanned eight.

The two teams traded zeroes through the first three innings until the Otters broke the silence in the fourth.

CSUMB cashed in 10 runs after loading the bases with no outs to start the frame. The two big hits in the inning came from Brady Miguel and Lindemann, as they both doubled in a pair of runs. Engman and Evan Stauch also ripped RBI singles.

The Otters added another in the seventh with a single run to push the score to 11-3, when Nico Hartojo knocked in Engman on a fielder's choice.

The two conference foes will close out the series tomorrow at Noon.
