Otters Drop Heartbreaker On Day 2

Willis throws 6 2/3 innings of no-hit ball in 1-0 loss to NNU

SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay lost a heartbreaker to No. 16 Northwest Nazarene when the Crusaders produced their only hit of the game — a solo home run by Emma Bumatay — with two outs in the seventh inning to claim a 1–0 victory on Day 2 of the Otter Invitational Tournament Friday at the Otter Sports Complex.

Freshman Mackenzie Willis (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas HS) was masterful throughout, with only a lone walk to blemish a near perfect performance for six-plus innings. Her counterpart, NNU senior Sidney Booth, allowed four hits and three Otters to reach scoring position, but got the key outs she needed to complete the shutout.

Ally Alcayaga (Sonoma Valley HS) doubled while Anastacia Alba (Watsonville HS/Chico State) and Leah Madden (Lexington, Ky./Clay HS) singled and stole bases to lead the Otter offense.

CSUMB will continue play at the Otter Invitational with a pair of games Saturday.  The Otters will take on Biola University at 11:30 a.m. and Montana State Billings at 4:30 p.m.
