Otters Fall Twice At Sonoma

CSUMB loses 1-0, 5-0

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey bay softball bats fell quiet Saturday as host Sonoma State swept a doubleheader, 1–0 and 5–0 at Seawolf Field.

Freshman Mackenzie Willis (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas HS) looked solid in the opener, allowing just four hits and one run while striking out five. But CSUMB managed only six base runners and got just one runner as far as second base in the ball game.

They had a chance to get back into it in the seventh when Anastacia Alba (Watsonville HS/Chico State) led off with a single and Jaedyn White (Fairfield/Rodriguez HS) sacrificed her to second. But the final two hitters couldn't move Alba further.

Sonoma scored three time in the first inning of Game 2. Nichole Sarra was in total control for the Seawolves, taking a no-hitter into the fifth and finishing with a 2–hit shutout.

The Otters return home next week to host the 5–team Otter Invitational Thursday through Sunday at the Otter Sports Complex. CSUMB opens tournament play against Biola University Thursday at 3 p.m.
