SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer team capped off its regular season in impressive fashion, taking down San Francisco State, 7-1, Thursday afternoon at Cardinale Stadium. The Otters enter postseason play with an 8-3-6 overall record and a 5-2-4 CCAA mark.
Seven different Otters scored in the contest and
Mason Ward handed out a career-high four assists to extend CSUMB's unbeaten streak to seven matches.
"We were really pleased with the professionalism of the group and how we approached the game in the right way," head coach
Graeme Jaap said. "We started very well and scored some really good goals in both halves. Really happy to see us finally be clinical in front of goal as we have been creating a lot of chances all season. Excited to be moving on with this group to the conference tournament and a tough game on the road versus LA."
The Otters raced out to a 5-0 first half lead. On his Senior Day,
Kane Ritchie scored the first goal of the match in the 17
th minute. CSUMB then scored four goals in a 10-minute stretch, as
Hugo Vargas-Rios, Ward,
Will Seargeant and
Janos Kömmerling all found the back of the net.
Daniel Perez and Ronaldo Guadarrama recorded second half goals for the Otters. CSUMB outshot San Francisco State, 21-6.
The Otters will open the CCAA Tournament on Sunday, Nov. 10, at Cal State LA.
