LOS ANGELES – The Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer team opened the CCAA Tournament with a 3-1 setback to host No. 7 Cal State LA at University Stadium. The Otters close out the annual tournament with an 8-4-6 record.
CSUMB gave up two first half goals and succumbed to another Golden Eagle tally before finding the back of the net in the 77
th minute.
Hugo Vargas-Rios scored his team-leading eighth goal on a finish far post.
Mason Ward once again was in the giving mood as he was credited with the assist, his fifth in the past two matches and seventh on the season.
The Otters were barely out-shot, 11-10, and forced five corners.
Jack Blickenstaff made three saves.
The meeting was the second time in seven days the two conference foes faced off.
