Jack Blickenstaff continued his stellar play in goal and
Hugo Vargas-Rios scored in the second half to lift the Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Sonoma State on Friday at the Seawolf Soccer Field.
"Another good performance from the guys today," head coach
Graeme Jaap said. "On another day we should have scored more goals but I am really happy to keep a clean sheet on the road against a tough Sonoma side. Great to see Hugo get on the score sheet with a great finish as well. The guys are looking forward to another tough game on the road at Humboldt on Sunday."
Vargas-Rios buried a follow-up off a save from a
Kane Ritchie shot in the 66
th minute to supply all the scoring the Otters would need. The tally was his third on the season.
The reigning CCAA Defensive Player of the Week continued his torrid start to his season as Blickenstaff posted his third straight clean sheet. The senior goalkeeper made two saves in the winning effort.
Vargas-Rios and
Mason Ward led all players with five shots apiece. CSUMB outshot Sonoma State, 22-8.
The Otters close out their road trip at Cal Poly Humboldt on Sunday, Oct. 27.
