SEASIDE, Calif. – The Cal State Monterey Bay women's water polo team dropped its home opener at the Otter Tank, 10-5, Saturday afternoon to Santa Clara.
The misfortune started early for the Otters as they peppered the cage but could not find the back of the net. CSUMB out-shot Santa Clara, 34-30, and drew eight exclusions.
Autumn Day paced the Otters offensively with three points on a goal and two assists. All five goals were scored by a different Otter and three of the five were recorded in the final quarter.
Shea Tully paced CSUMB with six shots and had one goal.
In goal,
Grace Mensing tallied 17 saves and recorded a team-high two steals in another full game played in the cage.
CSUMB returns to the Otter Tank tomorrow to face UC Merced at 1 p.m.
