Otters Fit To Be Tied Against Roadrunners, 1-1

Metro State scores late to counter an early Miguel Guerrero goal

SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay men's soccer team gave another strong performance Friday evening before a late goal forced the Otters to settle for a 1–1 draw against Metro State at the Otter Sports Complex.

Miguel Guerrero's (Redwood City/Sequoia HS) second goal of the season midway through the first half staked the Otters to a 1–0 lead. But after the Metro State defense cleared a ball off the line in the 77th minute, a lightening fast counter saw Adan Perez power deep into the Otter box. Aaron Biggerstaff put Perez's short cross home to bring the Roadrunners level.

The Otters earned three shots and two corners over the final 13 minutes, but couldn't break the tie.

CSUMB out-shot Metro 17–4 for the match, putting nine ball on frame to just two for the Roadrunners. The Otters also earned a commanding 11–3 advantage in corner kick opportunities.

THE MATCH WAS OVER WHEN… well, not over, but the turning point of the match came just before the Otter goal when Metro State goalkeeper Ross Miller just touched a brilliant free kick from Miguel Guerrero off the crossbar. He he immediately denied a point-blank opportunity from Janos Kömmerling. Although the Otters went on to take a 1–0 lead, Miller's save gave his team a chance to salvage the tie with the late counter.

TAKING THEIR SHOTS… After out-shooting Metro State 17–4 Friday night, the Otters are out-shooting their opponents by a remarkable 90–28 margin through five games. CSUMB has out-shot all five opponents this season and has out-shot 13 of its last 14 opponents dating back to last season.

GUERRERO TAKES HIS SHOTS… With three shots Friday against Metro State, Miguel Guerrero moved up to No. 11 on the Otter career shots list with 73. He needs six more to pass Luis Lopez (2017–19) for a spot in the Top 10.

LEADERS OF THE RAFT… GOALS: Miguel Guerrero (2); ASSISTS: Alexis Sanchez (3). SHOTS LEADER: Miguel Guerrero 3; SAVES: Matthias Milton 1.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters continue their 3–match homestand by hosting another Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference foe in Westminster University Sunday in Cardinale Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:30 a.m.
