Otters Drop TOC Opener To Azusa Pacific

CSUMB falls 4-2 in first of five tournament games

TURLOCK, Calif.—The Cal State Monterey Bay bats stayed quiet for most of the game as Azusa Pacific took advantage of a pair of walks and a home run to earn a 4–2 victory in the opening game of the Tournament of Champions presented by the City of Turlock Thursday at Warrior Stadium.

Senior Alyssa Burt (Garden Grove/Pacific HS) doubled home the first Otter run in the fourth inning and sophomore Ally Alcayaga (Sonoma Valley HS) singled home a run in the seventh. Oli Perez (Ceres HS) singled and scored in fron of Alcayaga's hit and that represented the entirety of the CSUMB offense Thursday.

Cassie Gasper (Merced/Univ. of Missouri) fanned five an allowed just five hits and two walks over 5 1/3 innings. But both walks came around to score in front of a 2–run homer from APU's Caitlin DeCaino, and that proved to be too much for the Otter offense to overcome.

CSUMB continues play at the Tournament of Champions Thursday with a pair of games. The Otters will take on Northwest Nazarene at 9 a.m. and Hawaii Pacific at 2 p.m. Both games will be played at Warrior Stadium on the campus of the Stanislaus State and will be carried on the CCAA Network.
