Pitching Carries Otters To Sweep At Stanislaus

Kassidy Stetler, Cassie Gasper combine to allow just earned run in 14 innings

TURLOCK, Calif. — A pair of dominant pitching performances and a couple of timely hits carried Cal State Monterey Bay to consecutive 2–1 victories and a doubleheader sweep of Stanislaus State Friday afternoon at Warrior Stadium.

Kassidy Stetler's (Mill Valley/Tamalpais HS) star shined the brightest in the circle Friday. She tossed her second collegiate 2–hitter, allowing just two singles and an unearned run for her seventh win of the season. She struck out five and didn't walk a batter.

Cassie Gasper (Merced/Univ. of Missouri) improved to 10–5 in the opener, striking out seven while scattering five hits and one walk.

CSUMB (18–11, 11–7 CCAA) never trailed on the day but needed a 2–out, RBI double from Alyssa Burt (Garden Grove/Pacifica HS) in the fourth inning to break a 1–1 tie and win Game 1. Ally Alcayaga's (Sonoma Valley HS) 2–out, RBI single in the third inning proved to be the game winner in Game 2.

GAME 2 WAS OVER WHEN OVER WHEN… Kassidy Stetler coaxed a ground out from Noelany Ramirez with the potential tying run on second base to end the sixth inning.

HOME AWAY FROM HOME… Friday's games at Stanislaus State were the first and second of nine consecutive games the Otters will play in Turlock, including seven consecutive that they will play at Warrior Stadium. CSUMB returns to the Central Valley for the Tournament of Champions presented by the City of Turlock Mar. 30–Apr. 1.

STETLER MOWS 'EM DOWN… With five strikeouts Friday afternoon, Kassidy Stetler moved up to No. 12 on the Otter career strikeout list with 110. She needs three more to pass Jessica Moon (2009–12) for 11th place and six more to move past Bianca Noriega (2013–16) into the Top 10.

…SO DOES GASPER… With seven punchouts Friday at Stanislaus State, Cassie Gasper vaulted up to No. 19 on the Otter single–season strikeout list with 93. She needs four more to pass Celeste Villagrana (2019) for No. 18 on the list.

2–HITTER NUMBER TWO… The 2–hitter thrown by Kassidy Stetler was her second as an Otter. She also tossed a 6–inning 2–hitter in a 10–0 win over Cal State East Bay as a freshman in 2022.

DOUBLE THE FUN… Alyssa Burt collected her 44th career double Friday at Stanislaus State in Game 1. She needs five more to pass Madi Casto (2014–17) for No. 5 on the Otter career list.
