Otters Drop Two To Seawolves

Sonoma takes series, 3-1

SEASIDE, Calif. — Sonoma State came up with the clutch hits all afternoon to sweep a doubleheader from Cal State Monterey Bay, 10–2 and 3–0, Saturday afternoon at the Otter Sports Complex.

Sonoma began Game 1 with nine singles in the first two innings, parlaying them into eight runs to take control early. An Oli Perez (Ceres HS) sac fly and a run-scoring single from Abby Alcayaga (Sonoma Valley HS) pulled two of those runs back. But the Seawolves scored two more in the fifth to close the game via run rule.

The Otters had their chances in the nightcap as they put runners in scoring position in five of the seven innings against Sonoma starter Charlie Johnson, but they never found a way to solve the freshman righty. Johnson made three appearance in the 4–game series and threw 14 shutout innings.

Skylar Linnane hit solo shots in the fifth and seventh innings to provide Johnson all of the run support she would need.

Alcayaga and Ivana Perez (La Habra/Oregon State) each finished the day with three hits, including one double apiece, to lead the CSUMB offense.

The Otters hit the road for the next two weeks with consecutive trips to Turlock on tap. The action begins with a 4–game series at Stanislaus State Mar. 24–25. They'll return to Warrior Field to kick off play at the Tournament of Champions Mar. 30–Apr. 1.
