Another Hard–Luck Loss For Gasper, Otters At Kickoff Classic

Cassie Gasper throws 5 1/3 no-hit innings in 2-0 loss to No. 19 Concordia

IRVINE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay concluded play at the Concordia Kickoff Classic with another hard-luck loss Sunday, falling to No. 19 Concordia 2–0 at Great Park Stadium.

After allowing hits to three of the first five batters, senior Cassie Gasper (Merced/Univ. of Missouri) was masterful, throwing 5 1/3 innings of no-hit ball to keep the Otters close. Although CSUMB out-hit the Golden Eagles 6-to-3 for the game, the Otter offense couldn't solve CUI's Katlin Entrup, who went the distance for her third win.

The Otters had their chances, stranding eight runners and advancing three as far as third base, but they couldn't find the big hit they needed to break the seal. A leadoff single by Abby Alcayaga (Sonoma Valley HS) and a double by Ivana Perez (La Habra/Oregon State) got two runners on in the seventh before Entrup found the final out of the game.

Perez went 2-for-4 Sunday and finished tournament play hitting .471 to earn a spot on the Concordia Kickoff Classic All–Tournament team. Haley Clay (Whittier/Univ. of Hawaii) tripled and Alyssa Burt (Garden Grove/Pacifica HS) doubled to lead the Otter offense Sunday.

CSUMB returns to action Saturday (Feb. 11) with another trip to Orange County. This time, the Otters will face Pac West Conference contender Biola University for a doubleheader in La Mirada.
