Offense Continues to Roll as Otters Split Day Two Doubleheader to Earn Series Win Over Warriors

CSUMB puts up 18 more runs in day two split with Stanislaus, 12-5 and 7-6

TURLOCK, CALIF. –
The Monterey Bay offensive onslaught continued in games three and four of its series against the Stanislaus State Warriors, as the Otters split those final two games 12-5 and 7-6 on Sunday afternoon at the Warrior Baseball Field.

The Otters opened up game three of the series with five unanswered runs, and rode that momentum to the finish line. Stanislaus responded by scoring six unanswered runs to open game four. The Otters refused to go down without a fight, responding to tie things up at six in the seventh, but would eventually fall in the final frame.

Trenton Free (Novato/College of Marin) wrapped up his breakout series by going 6-for-8 today, driving in three Otter runs. Chase Lindemann (Santa Clarita/Hartnell College) continued to provide consistency at the top of the lineup, also logging six hits, including a double and an RBI.

Game three starter Nate Rohlicek (Gilbert, Ariz./UNR) was solid in his four innings of work, allowing just one run on three hits and three walks, while striking out four before giving way to Nico Hartojo (Arvada, Colo./MPC). Hartojo followed Rohlicek's performance with four quality innings of his own, allowing one run on three hits and two walks, while fanning a career-best five in his first career win as an Otter.

Although starting pitching struggled in game four, the Otters received a big boost from bullpen arms Mitchell Torres (Santa Clarita/Mesa CC) and Cade Balma (Danville/Chabot College) who combined for four scoreless innings of work.

GAME ONE WAS OVER WHEN… Brady Miguel singled Chase Lindemann home in the seventh, pushing the Otters ahead 7-2.

GAME TWO WAS OVER WHEN… Stanislaus scored the winning run on a hit batsman with the bases loaded.

HAVE A SERIES, BRADY… Brady Miguel had a series to remember, putting up 12 hits and 10 RBI against a Warrior pitching staff that had no answers for the defending CCAA Player of the Year. This was the second best series of Brady's Otter career, as he logged 14 hits last season in the four game series against Cal State L.A. (Apr. 8 - 10, 2022)

THE NEW GUY… The Otters returned two stellar outfielders from last season, Kyle Guerra and Chase Lindemann, but questions were asked on who would be third coming into this season. Trent Free made his best effort to answer that question this weekend, logging nine hits, including six in the final two games of this series. Coming off of this stellar weekend, Free is now batting .440, the best mark for any Otter with at least 20 ABs.

A FIRST FOR NICO… Now in his second season with the Otters, Nico Hartojo has proven himself as a steadfast part of the starting lineup, but today, he demonstrated his full potential on the mound as well. Hartojo entered game three of the series with a 7-1 lead and mowed through the Warriors lineup, allowing just three hits in four innings while striking out five en route to his first CSUMB victory.

THE FINAL WORD… "Road series in the CCAA are always challenging. Combine that with cold weather, wet playing conditions, and a strong Stan State team, winning this series is encouraging. I'm proud of the way we competed all weekend. We have another challenging series next weekend against SF State and I am quite certain they will be anxious and ready to play. We look forward to another CCAA challenge." – Head Coach Walt White

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters welcome San Francisco State to Seaside for their first CCAA home series of the season. First pitch of the series is set for 2 PM on Friday, Mar. 3.
