East Bay Pulls Away Late For 67-56 Win

Mikayla Mabie leads Otters in points, rebounds, assists & steals in penultimate game

SEASIDE, Calif. — Senior Mikayla Mabie (Riverside/UC Merced) had a big night in her penultimate collegiate game, but it wasn't enough to stop a late Cal State East Bay surge that lifted the Pioneers to a 67–56 win Thursday night in The Kelp Bed.

Mabie finished with team highs of 14 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals to keep the Otters close most of the night. But the Pioneers used a late 12–0 run to open a 19-point lead at 65–46 to put the game on ice.

The Otter defense was solid, collecting double-digit steals (11) for the seventh time this season while forcing 20 turnovers. But East Bay was even better on the boards, out-rebounding the Otters 50–30, and that told the tale of the game.
 

THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… Payton Sterk completed a traditional 3-point play to extend the East Bay lead to 63–46mlead with 3:20 remaining.

MABIE LENDS A HAND… With five assists Thursday versus East Bay, Mikayla Mabie brought her season total to 110. She needs three to pass Alma Lopez (2008) for No. 2 and 10 to take the Otter record of 119 from Helen Suarez (2009).

A THIEF IN THE NIGHT… Mikayla Mabie became the second Otter this season to collect five steals in a game Thursday night against East Bay. Kiki Griffin also had five steals against Cal State San Bernardino on Dec. 3.
