Otters Hang Tough With 25th Ranked Matadors

Vincze and Ainsworth each score twice in 10-5 tilt with CSUN

SEASIDE, CALIF. –
Cal State Monterey Bay Water Polo returned home to the Otter Tank on Friday afternoon, falling in a tight contest with #25 Cal State Northridge 10-5.

The Otters trailed by just two goals at the halftime break, putting together multiple strong defensive possessions to keep the Matadors off the board for long chunks of the first half. Northridge came out on the offensive in the second half, opening their lead to five goals, but the Otters continued to counter, keeping the Matadors within arms length, eventually falling 10-5.

Allyson Ainsworth (West Sacramento/River City HS) and Gabri Vincze (Newbury Park/Agoura HS) each scored a pair of goals in the contest. It was Ainsworth's second career multi-goal game, while it was Vincze's first. Autumn Day (Murrieta Valley HS) added a goal and assist, the third time in her young Otter career that she's notched a goal and an assist in the same contest.

Megan Taylor (San Juan Capistrano/Capo Valley HS) continued to be a formidable shot stopper in net for Otter opponents. She made 10 saves, making it her seventh double-digit save effort this season and the 21st of her career. Also providing stout defense were Abigail Summers (Visalia/Golden West HS), notching a career-best two steals, and Gabri Vincze, recording a career-best two field blocks.

The Otters will hit the road for the rest of the weekend, taking part in the Bronco Invitational at Santa Clara. The Otters will take on Austin College and Brown tomorrow and Santa Clara and San Jose State on Sunday.
