Otter Men Fall To Sonoma, 2-0

CSUMB blanked for first time this season

SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay yielded goals early in each half as visiting Sonoma State pulled off a 2–0 upset Friday evening in Cardinale Stadium.

The match marked just the second time this season the Otters (6–2–2, 2–1–0 CCAA) allowed two goals and both of those represent the lone blemishes on CSUMB's schedule to date. The win was the first conference victory for Sonoma (3–5–2, 1–2–1) in 2023.

CSUMB out-shot Sonoma 15-11 for the match, putting eight balls on target to just four for the Seawolves. But Cypress Navarro–Acio headed home a corner in the 16th minute and Jose Rios Lara took a long clearance and made a scoring chance out of whole cloth to double the Seawolf lead five minutes after the restart.

The Otters continue their 3–match homestand Sunday when they host Cal Poly Humboldt in Cardinale Stadium. Kickoff will be at 11:30 a.m. as the opener of doubleheader action with the Otter women.
