Safarians Scores Third In Loss At Pomona

Jasmine Safarians scores team-leading third goal but Otters fall, 3-1

POMONA, Calif. — Senior striker Jasmine Safarians (Pleasant Hill/College Park HS) scored her team-leading third goal of the season, but it wasn't enough to help Cal State Monterey Bay overcome host Cal Poly Pomona in a 3–1 setback Sunday afternoon at Kellogg Stadium.

Pomona took control of the match early, scoring twice in the first 11 minutes while out-shooting the Otters 9–1 in the first half. But CSUMB came out the aggressor after the break and cashed in quickly when Safarians cleaned up a loose ball deep in the Pomona box to make it 2-1.

The Otters kept the pressure on for the next 15 minutes, but the Broncos iced the game 20 minutes from time when Liberty Ortiz converted a free kick to restore Pomona's 2–goal advantage.

Sunday's contest ended a 5–match roadtrip for the Otters, the second–longest trip in program history and their longest since 2015. They return to Cardinale Stadium to host Cal State San Bernardino Saturday at 4:30 p.m. in the opening match of men's/women's doubleheader action.
