Otters Settle for Draw In CCAA Opener

CSUMB and Cal State L.A. play a scoreless tie in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES — The Cal State Monterey Bay soccer team split the points with host Cal State L.A. by playing the Golden Eagles to a scoreless draw Friday night at Jesse Owens Stadium.

The draw leaves CSUMB at 3–2–3 overall and Cal State L.A. at 3–2–2. It was the CCAA opener for both teams.

L.A. out-shot the Otters 15–8 for the match, putting seven shots on frame in the second half. Senior goalkeeper Maleni Morales (Mission San Jose HS/Las Positas College) proved equal to the task, however, making seven saves to earn her fourth shutout of the season. She lowered her season goals against average to 0.75 with the clean sheet.

The Otters will close their 5–match roadtrip Sunday when they head east on the 10 Freeway to take on Cal Poly Pomona. CSUMB returns home for the first time since Sept. 3 to host Cal State San Bernardino on Sept. 30.
