Otters Earn Key Split At Cal State San Marcos

Otters run–rule nation’s No. 6 ranked 10 in Game 2

SAN MARCOS, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay softball team continued its postseason push with a key split at No. 6 ranked Cal State San Marcos Friday afternoon. After dropping the opener, 6–0, the Otters rallied for a 10–1, run–rule victory in the nightcap at the CSUSM Softball Field.

CSUMB improved to 30–16 overall and 15–15 in the CCAA. San Marcos is now 35–7 and 24–6. CSUMB improved to 6–3 versus nationally–ranked teams in 2022 with the win.

After scraping out just three hits in the opener, the Otters exploded for three runs in the first inning of Game 2. They put the game away with a 6–run fourth inning that included RBI knocks from Ally Alcayaga (Sonoma Valley HS) and Alyssa Burt (Garden Grove/Pacifica HS). Alcayaga tripled home Ivana Perez (La Habra/Troy HS) in the fifth to cap the scoring.

Jensen Main (Stevenson School/Sacramento State) went the distance to improve to 19–8 on the season. She tied Angela Cabral (2008) for the No. 6 spot on the Otter single–season wins list.

The Otters and Cougars will conclude their 4–game series with a doubleheader Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
