Otters Take Down Top-Ranked Concordia, Run Win Streak To 11

CSUMB stays undefeated at Tournament of Champions with pair of Saturday wins

TURLOCK, Calif. -- Cal State Monterey Bay ran its winning streak to 11 games with an impressive 4-2 win over No. 1 ranked Concordia University to cap action at Day 2 of the Tournament of Champions Saturday at the Pedretti Sports Complex.

CSUMB (25-10 overall) opened the day with a 6-1 win over Great Northwest Conference rival Northwest Nazarene University before its showdown with the top-ranked Eagles. Jensen Main (15-5) took care of business in the main event, allowing single runs in the first and seventh innings to sandwich five shutout frames that allowed the Otter offense to make the difference.

Haylee Clay (La Serna HS/Univ. of Hawaii) drove in the game-winner with an RBI single in the fifth. The Otters tacked on thanks to a Concordia error later in the inning.

CSUMB improved to 3-0 versus Top 10 ranked teams in 2022. The Otters defeated the nation's No. 1 ranked team for the first time since handing Humboldt State a 4-0 defeat on Feb. 22, 2014.

The Otters ceded the first run to Northwest Nazarene in Saturday's opener before storming back with six unanswered runs to secure the win. Clay, Ivana Perez (La Habra/Troy HS/Oregon State) and Alyssa Burt (Garden Grove/Pacifica HS) each drove in two runs.

Freshman Kassidy Stetler (Tamalpais HS) struck out five in five innings of 2-hit, shutout relief to improve to 5-1.

Clay finished the day 4-for-7 with a run and three RBI to pace the offense. Perez added three hits, two runs and two RBI.

The Otters will close play at the Tournament of Champions Sunday when they face Saint Martin's University at 11:30 a.m.
