Otters Finish Stanislaus Series With Doubleheader Split

Late rally give CSUMB 7-4 victory in opener

SEASIDE, Calif — Cal State Monterey Bay found the key hits it needed late in the opener, but could not find them in the nightcap as the Otters split a doubleheader with Stanislaus State 7–4 and 7–3 Saturday at the Otter Sports Complex.

After Stanislaus rallied to tie Game 1 at 4–4 with a 3–run sixth, Alyssa Burt (Garden Grove/Pacifica HS) came up clutch with a 2–out, 2–run triple deep into the right field corner to drive home the winning runs. Jensen Main (Stevenson School/Sacramento State) locked down the win with a scoreless seventh to improve to 18–7 on the season.

Things went sideways for Otter batters in the nightcap, however, has the key hits eluded them throughout the game. Ally Alcayaga (Sonoma Valley HS) got things off on the right foot with her fifth home run of the season to stake CSUMB to a 1–0 lead in the second.

But six of the seven Warriors who came to bat in the third inning got hits as Stanislaus put up four runs to take the lead. The Otters could add only single runs in the fourth and seventh on Stanislaus throwing errors. CSUMB wen 2–for 16 with runners in scoring position in the game, stranding 11 and allowing the Warriors to escape with the win.

Alcayaga led the Otter offense with six hits in the doubleheader. Jessica Cross (Simi Valley HS) added five hits.
