Big Fly From Perez Earns Otters Series Split With East Bay

Oli Perez hits her team–leading third homer in 3–2, Game 2 victory

SEASIDE, Calif. — Freshman shortstop Oli Perez (Ceres HS) followed an RBI triple by Jessilyn Barrow (Folsom HS) with her third home run of the season to give the Otters a 3–2 win in the nightcap and a series split with Cal State East Bay Sunday at the Otter Sports Complex.

East Bay scored on a squeeze bunt in the third and a bases–loaded walk in the eighth to pull out a 2–1 win in Sunday's opener.

The split left both teams with 14–7 records overall. CSUMB is now 6–6 in CCAA play with East Bay improved to 8–4.

In the nightcap, freshman Kassidy Stetler (Tamalpais HS) enjoyed her second consecutive strong outing in her second collegiate start, scattering five hits while striking out five in 6 1/3 innings. Jensen Main (Stevenson School) got the last two outs for her first save of 2022.

Stetler (2–0) got all the run support she would need in the third inning when Barrow lined a triple to the gap to plate Jessica Cross (Simi Valley HS), setting up the Perez blast over the left field wall.

Barrow had a pair of hits in both games Sunday, finishing the day 4–for–7 with a triple, a run and two RBI. Cross saw her 5–game hitting streak snapped in the opener before going 3–for–3 in Game 2.

Main took the hoard–luck loss in Game 1, allowing just one earned run and seven hits in eight innings.

CSUMB hits the road for a 4–game series at Sonoma State Friday and Saturday (Mar. 11–12). The Otters return home to host a nonconference doubleheader against Dominican University Mar. 23.
