Otters Head to The CCAA Championship Tournament

CSUMB has its eyes set on a first–ever NCAA Tournament bid

March 02, 2022

SEASIDE, Calif. — Fresh off the most successful regular season since joining the NCAA for the 2004–05 season, Cal State Monterey Bay continues its drive to the NCAA Tournament Thursday (Mar. 3) when the No. 4 seed Otters take on No. 5 seed Cal State Dominguez Hills in the CAA Championship Tournament Quarterfinals.

Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. in Lumberjack Arena on the campus of Cal Poly Humboldt.

CSUMB (13–8, 12–6 CCAA) likely needs to win one if not two games at the tournament for a chance to earn one of eight NCAA West Region Tournament bids. The Otters enter the week No. 10 in the West Region rankings. Of course, winning three games would mean a CCAA Tournament title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The Otters will meet the Toros with three newly minted All–CCAA players. Junior center Andrew Ferguson earned first team honors while guard Levi Frankland and Jordan May were named to the All–CCAA second team. It marks the first time since the 2007–08 season that CSUMB can boast of three first/second team All–CCAA performers.
