Otters Close Challenging Season With Senior Day Setback

Pointer scores 25, Shaw has huge double-double in 67-56 loss to San Bern

SEASIDE, Calif. -- The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team closed a challenging 2021-22 campaign with a a pair of encouraging performances in a 67-56 loss to Cal State San Bernardino Saturday afternoon in The Kelp Bed.

Junior guard Lauryn Pointer (Los Angeles/UC Riverside) scored a career-high 25 points. Freshman center Sarah Shaw (Dana Point/JSerra HS) added the best game of her young collegiate career with a 19-point, 14-rebound double-double.

The Otters fell behind 23-9 late in the first quarter before Pointer and Shaw sparked a big rally that got them to within 33-29 at the half. Playing with just eight players, however, took its toll and the Otters couldn't sustain the momentum as the Coyotes expanded their lead to 17, 57-40, by the end of the third quarter.

The game was the final game of the season for the Otters and the final collegiate games for juniors Rebecca Castillo, Tricia Delph and Sidni Wise-Wright and well as student assistant Chole Collins, all of whom will graduate this spring.
