Otters, Wildcats Split Pitching Gems To Open CCAA Play

Jensen Main runs scoreless streak to 27 2/3 innings with 2–hit shutout in the nightcap

SEASIDE, Calif. — No. 12 ranked Cal State Monterey Bay and No. 19 ranked Chico State split a pair of pitching gems to open their CCAA schedules Friday night at the Otter Sports Complex.

Chico took Game 1, 2–0 on a 3–hit shutout from their ace, Brooke Larson, before Jensen Main (Stevenson School/Sac State) did her one better with a 2–hit shutout in CSUMB's 7–0, Game 2 victory.

Main continued the remarkable start to her Otter career by running her scoreless innings streak to 27 2/3 innings, maintaining a spotless 0.00 ERA. Friday night she allowed just two singles while striking out six.

Her offense gave her all the support she would need by scoring five runs in the second inning. University of Hawaii transfer Haylee Clay dealt the big blow with a pinch–hit, 2–run single in front of Alyssa Burt's (Garden Grove/Pacifica HS) RBI triple.

Ivana Perez (La Habra/Oregon State) opened the gates on a 2–run fifth inning with a leadoff double. CSUMB left the bases loaded in the fifth and left the potential game–ending run on third in the sixth, but with Jensen in command, it didn't matter.

Chico took the opener behind the solid pitching of Larson and an opportunistic offense. The Wildcats scored on a bases–loaded walk in the second and Nina Revoir's run–scoring single in the sixth.

The CSUMB offense managed six base runners against Larson, but she had an answer for every Otter challenge on this night.

GAME 1 WAS OVER WHEN OVER WHEN… Nina Revoir doubled the Chico lead with her RBI single in the sixth inning.

GAME 2 WAS OVER WHEN OVER WHEN… Alyssa Burt's triple to the fence in right center capped a 5–run second inning. Chico never came close to threatening with Jensen Main in the circle.

WELCOME TO THE CLUB… Freshman pitcher Kassidy Stetler made a strong impressive in her Otter debut during Game 1 Friday night. She came on to strand a pair of Wildcats in the sixth then pitched a perfect seventh.

TESTED AGAINST THE BEST… Friday's win over No. 19 Chico State was CSUMB's 51st win over a ranked team in CSUMB's 15–plus years of softball action. CSUMB is 51–68 all–time against NCAA Top 25 teams.

LEADERS OF THE RAFT (GAME 1)… Cassie Gasper (L [3–2], 5.1IP, 2R, 5K); Kassidy Stetler (1.2IP, 0H, 0R, K); Oli Perez (1x2, BB).

LEADERS OF THE RAFT (GAME 2)… Jensen Main (W [4–0], 7.0 IP, 2H, 0R, 6K); Alyssa Burt (1x3, 3B, RBI); Ivana Perez (1x2, 2B, 2R); Haylee Clay (1x1, 2RBI).

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters conclude their 4–game series against Chico State with a doubleheader Saturday at 11 a.m.
