Otters Go Cold In The Middle Of 76–53 Setback at Chico

Lauryn Pointer scores 15, Sarah Shaw adds 10

CHICO, Calif. — Like a burrito microwaved at a 7–11, Cal State Monterey Bay was hot on the outside but frozen in the middle of a 76–53 loss to Chico State Thursday night in Acker Gym.

CSUMB scored 18 points in the first quarter — just two off its season high — and a season–high 27 points in the fourth quarter. But the middle quarters were an entirely different story.

The Otters tied a school record by scoring only two points in the second quarter. In fact, they scored just two points over a run of 12 minutes and 14 seconds from late in the first quarter until early in the third. That dry spell allowed the Wildcats to turn an 18–16 Otter lead into a 38–20 advantage that essentially iced the game.

Senor guard Lauryn Pointer (Los Angeles/UCR), the CCAA's third–leading scorer, matched her season average with 15 points. Freshman center Sarah Shaw (Dana Point/JSerra HS) added 10.

CSUMB continues its 4–game roadtrip Saturday at Stanislaus State. The women will tip-off at 5:30 as the opener of doubleheader action.
