Otter Women's Basketball Notebook at Chico State

Otters hunting for back-to-back wins in rematch with Wildcats

SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay women's basketball team looks to continue its winning ways when it heads to Chico tonight (Thurs., Feb. 10) for a rematch with Chico State in Acker Gym.

The Otters are coming off their best performance of the season in a 62–53 win over Sonoma State Saturday in The Kelp Bed. CSUMB led by as many as 18 points and never let the Seawolves within three possessions of the lead for the entire second half. Lauryn Pointer led the way with a fantastic all–around performance, socring 22 points to go along with career highs of seven rebounds and six assists.

The last time these teams met the Otters led a low scoring affair at the half, 24–22, after the Wildcats missed their first 15 attempts from 3–point range. But but Chico came back to make 5–of–10 from beyond the arc in the second half and rode that effort to a 63–49 win in The Kelp Bed on Jan. 22. Lauryn Pointer came off the bench to lead CSUMB with 14 points while Sarah Shaw pulled down 11 rebounds. Bailey Jones and Myli Martinez scored 11 apiece for Chico.

To meet new California Department of Public Health (CDPH) health and safety guidelines, Chico State has updated its policies for large indoor athletic, theatre, music, and performing arts events occurring on campus. Beginning Wednesday, January 5, attendees age 2 or older will be required to show proof of full vaccination (at least two weeks after last dose) or a negative COVID-19 test (via a PCR test within two days or antigen test within one day of the event).
