Otters Miss Chance To Wrap Up Postseason Berth

MB still controls its own fate with two matches remaining

ARCATA, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay missed an opportunity to wrap up its first CCAA Tournament berth in 14 seasons when Cal Poly Humboldt pulled off the 1–0 upset Friday afternoon at College Creek Field.

Humboldt claimed the lone goal of the match in the 20th minute when a failed clearance left Juan Perez 1v1 with Otter goalkeeper Matthias Milton, who could not come up with the save. The Lumberjacks attempted just one shot over the final 71 minutes as they laid back to protect their slim advantage.

CSUMB appeared to catch a break in the 34th minute when Humboldt midfielder Ramiro Rosas drew a straight red. But the Otters never found a way to unlock even the 10–man Lumberjack defensive posture.

CSUMB (7–6–2, 5–4–0 CCAA) will have another opportunity to clinch a CCAA Tournament bid Sunday when it heads inland to Chico to face the Wildcats. Kickoff will be at 11:30 a.m. as the opener of men's/women's doubleheader action.
