Otters Continue Early Roll With 3–1 Win Over Menlo College

Adrian Rebollar has a hand in allthree Otter goals; CSUMB now 4–0–1 overall

SEASIDE, Calif. — A brace and an assist from senior Adrian Rebollar (Watsonville HS) led Cal State Monterey Bay to a 3–1 win over visiting Menlo College Saturday evening at the Otter Sports Complex.

The goals were the fourth and fifth of the season for Rebollar, already his career high. Freshman Javier Romero (San Francisco/Marshall HS) scored his first collegiate goal off a feed from Rebollar to open the Otter scoreline.

Menlo took a surprise lead against the run of play when Caden Mink helped create an Otter turnover in the defensive third and fired a low shot from which Christian Mendoza cleaned up a rebound in the 27th minute. That score held until halftime.

It took the Otters just 63 seconds after the restart to equalize. Rebollar did the yeoman's share of the work with a darting run into the Oaks box from where he fed an unmarked Romero for the tap-in.

Barely two minutes later, Rebollar curled in a free kick from just outside box to give the Otters the lead. He finished the Oaks off when he stole the ball on the left touch line and penetrated all the way to the near post, leaving Menlo goalkeeper Nico Feusi no chance.

THE MATCH WAS OVER WHEN… Adrian Rebollar scored his fifth goal of the season in the 71st minute to give the Otters a 3–1 lead.

ALREADY A CAREER YEAR… With his fourth and fifth goals of the season, Adrian Rebollar already has scored a career–high in goals through the first five matches. He scored three goals in each of his first three collegiate seasons.

MOVIN' ON UP… With five points in Saturday's win over Menlo College (2 goals, 1 assist), Adrian Rebollar became the seventh player in Otter history to record 40 career points. He needs three more to pass Servando Perez (2011–13) for No. 6 on the Otter career points list.

REBOLLAR LENDS A HAND… With his assist on Javier Romero's goal, Adrian Rebollar tied Kyle Satow (2004–07) for No. 5 on the Otter career assist list at 12. He needs four more to pass Nate Torricelli and Nathan Northup for third place.

LEADERS OF THE RAFT… GOALS: Adrian Rebollar 2; ASSISTS: Adrian Rebollar 1; POINTS: Adrian Rebollar 5; SHOTS: Pedro Hernandez/Adrian Rebollar 2; SAVES: Adrian Muñoz 3.

THE LAST WORD… "The players and staff were a bit disappointed with our first half performance; we felt we never quite got going. The second half was more Otter-like and we felt that our intensity and hard work shone through. We are really happy with the progress that we are making and excited about next week's game." – CSUMB Head Coach Graeme Jaap

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters will play their final preconference match of the season when the host Cal State Dominguez Hills for a men's/women's doubleheader Saturday (Sept. 25). the men will kickoff at 4:30 p.m. and the women will kickoff at 7 p.m.
