Red–Hot Cal State L.A. Spoils 2021 Finale For Otters

Golden Eagles set school 3–point record in 76–60 win

SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal State L.A. women's basketball made a school–record 15 3–pointers to play Grinch in Cal State Monterey Bay's final game before Christmas, upending the Otters 76–60 Saturday afternoon in The Kelp Bed.

The Golden Eagles began the day shooting just 29 percent from long range this season, but they went 15–for–30 on this afternoon. Sophomore guard Nicole Flennaugh did most of the damage, obliterating the CSULA individual record for treys in a game by going 9–for–18 Saturday as part of her career–high 32–point performance.

L.A. opened the game with a 10–0 run. Although the Otters were able to get back to within two points, they never got over the hump.

Lauryn Pointer (Los Angeles/UC Riverside) and Frances Potts (Carson/Warren HS) led CSUMB with 15 points apiece. Tricia Delph (West L.A. College) led all rebounders with 12.

THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… a Nicole Flennaugh jumper gave L.A. a 72–55 lead with 2:23 remaining.

CHAIRWOMEN OF THE BOARDS… Led by a season–high 12 boards from Tricia Delph, the Otters pulled down a team–season–high 46 rebounds Saturday against Cal State L.A. CSUMB out–rebounded the Golden Eagles 46–36 for the game.

CHAIRWOMEN OF THE BOARDS, PART II… Tricia Delph became the third Otter this season to record double–figure rebounds in a game when she pulled down 12 Saturday against Cal State L.A. Sarah Shaw has done it twice (11 both times) while Rebecca Castillo grabbed a team season–high 15 in the Nov. 23 win at Holy Names University.

TAKE THEM, THEY'RE FREE… The Otters shot a team season–best .867 (13–for–15) from the free–throw line Saturday versus Cal State L.A. Emily Perez led the way by going 4–for–4. She currently ranks No. 2 in the CCAA with a .865 FT percentage

LEADERS OF THE RAFT… POINTS: Lauryn Pointer/Frances Potts 15; REBOUNDS: Tricia Delph 12; ASSISTS: Frances Potts 4; BLOCKS: Tricia Delph/Sidni Wise-Wright 1; STEALS: Emily Perez 2.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters are off until the new year when they return to action by hosting San Francisco State for a CCAA doubleheader on Sunday, Jan. 2. The women will tip-off at 1 p.m. and the men will tip-off at 3 p.m.
