Otters Bounce Back In A Big Way, Dominate WOU

Levi Frankland leads balanced attack with 18 points in 82–60 victory

SEASIDE, Calif. — After dropping Friday's season opener, the Cal State Monterey Bay men's basketball team bounced back in a big way with a dominating 82–60 win over Western Oregon Saturday evening in The Kelp Bed.

CSUMB led for the final 36 minutes of the game, building an advantage that would not fall below double digits over the final 25 minutes of regulation. The Otters eventually led by as many as 27 points (66–39) before settling on the 22 point final margin.

Everybody got into the act as 12 of the 13 Otters who saw action scored Saturday. Notre Dame (Ohio) transfer Levi Frankland led the balanced effort with 18 points. Andrew Ferguson (Perth/Western Aust.) just missed his first double–double of the season by finishing with 14 points and a game–high eight rebounds.

THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… a Jailen Nelson layup gave the Otters a 69–47 lead with 5:54 remaining.

TAKING THEIR SHOTS… A night after making just two 3–point field goals, Otter shooters came on to make 10 from beyond the arc in Saturday's win over Western Oregon. Eight different Otters made at least one 3–pointer in the game.

OTTERS ON THE REBOUND… CSUMB is off to a strong start on the glass in 2021–22, out–rebounding both Central Washington (43–36) and Western Oregon (47–31) over the weekend.

WE LOVE THE 80s… The 80s have been incredibly friendly territory for the Otters in recent history. With their 82–60 win over Western Oregon Saturday, CSUMB owns a 50–9 (.847) mark in its last 59 games when scoring at least 80 in regulation games dating to the 2007–08 season.

LEADERS OF THE RAFT… POINTS: Levi Frankland 18; REBOUNDS: Andrew Ferguson 8; ASSISTS: Tommy Kramer 2; BLOCKS: Andrew Ferguson/Kyle Johnson 2; STEALS: Jailen Nelson 2.

THE LAST WORD… "Tonight we continued to grow defensively, which is what I'm most proud of. Offensively, it was great to see the guys share the ball and knock down a few more shots. Now, we just need to stay on this trajectory and move towards our potential each week." – CSUMB Head Coach Isaac Williams

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters will take two weeks off before returning to action Thanksgiving weekend when they host Great Northwest Conference member Saint Martin's University Saturday (Nov. 27). Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in The Kelp Bed.
