Late Rally Comes Up Short As East Bay Takes 65–53 Decision

Sylvia Vartazarian scores 19 points, Camille Parker adds 16

SEASIDE, Calif. — A late Cal State Monterey Bay rally wasn't enough to overcome a cold shooting afternoon as visiting Cal State East Bay held on for a 65–53 win Saturday in The Kelp Bed.

CSUMB trailed by 13 points with less than two minutes to play when the Otter defense got three consecutive stops just as the offense found its grove. A Camille Parker (Alta Loma HS) jumper, a pair of Chyna Dews (Venice HS) free throws and a traditional 3–point play from Sylvia Vartazarian (Glendale HS) got the Otters back to within 59–53.

But East Bay went a spotless 6–for–6 from the line over the final 27 seconds to hold off CSUMB's comeback attempt.

Vartazarian led the Otters with 19 points. Parker added 16, a game–high three assists and three steals.

CSUMB returns to action next weekend when its hosts its final home games of the 2019–20 season. The action begins Thursday (Feb. 21) with a visit by Cal State San Marcos. Tip-off will be at 5:30 p.m. as the opener of men's/women's doubleheader action.
