Three In Otters Double Figures Can’t Top Chico’s Five

Wildcats ease away in second half for 81–71 victory

SEASIDE, Calif. — Cal State Monterey Bay put three scorers in double figures, but No. 18 Chico State answered with five of its own in an 81–71 Wildcat victory Saturday in The Kelp Bed.

Senior forward Joseph Bosetti (Red Bluff HS) came off the bench to score a team–high 15 points in just 18 minutes. Junior forward Damian Wilson (Inglewood/Taft HS) added 14 points in 18 minutes while senior guard Charlie Tooley (Granite Bay HS) chipped in 12.

What put the Otters behind the eight ball Saturday was 3–point shooting, where the normally potent Otter long game went just 5–for–21. Chico replied with 10 3–pointers of its own and that was enough to secure the win.

The game stayed close throughout the first half until a late spurt gave Chico a 47–36 lead at the break. The Wildcats came out of the lockerroom by scoring 11 of the first 15 points of the second half and the Otter never could fully close that gap.

THE GAME WAS STATISTICALLY OVER WHEN… former Otter Kevin Warren made 1–of–2 free–throws with 1:33 remaining to extend the Chico lead to 78–64.

YOU CAN'T STOP HIM, YOU CAN ONLY SLOW HIM DOWN… Chico State became the first team to hold super sophomore Andrew Ferguson under double digits in scoring, limiting him to eight points Saturday afternoon. Nevertheless, Ferguson still made an impact with 10 rebounds, his fourth double–figure rebounding game nine Otter appearances.

BOSETTI NEARS CENTURY MARK… Although he has played just two seasons in an Otter uniform, Joseph Bosetti is putting the finishing touches on a lengthy and productive collegiate career. Including Saturday's game versus Chico — and his two previous seasons at Simpson University — Bosetti has now played in 99 career games. With his next appearance, he will become the fifth player to finish his career as an Otter and play in 100 collegiate games.

LEADERS OF THE RAFT… POINTS: Joseph Bosetti 15; REBOUNDS: Andrew Ferguson 10; ASSISTS: Andrew Ferguson 3; BLOCKS: Ben Carter/Andrew Ferguson/Jahvon Johnson 1; STEALS: Jahvon Johnson 2.

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters head to SoCal to play a pair of games, starting with a doubleheader Thursday (Feb. 6) at Cal State Dominguez Hills The women will tip-off at 5:30 p.m. and the men will tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
