Otters Find Away Again With Sierra Levy’s Golden Goal

Otters earn their third OT victory of the young season, 2–1 over Southwestern Oklahoma State

SEASIDE, Calif. — The Cal State Monterey Bay women's soccer team keeps finding a way. Friday afternoon, the Otters won in overtime for the third time in six matches when Sierra Levy's (Tulare Western HS) golden goal in the 105th minute lifted CSUMB to a 2–1 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State at the Otter Sports Complex.

Southwestern held the run of play for significant stretches in this one until Maya Richardson's (Sacramento/West Campus HS) 72nd minute strike from the top of the penalty area tied the match at 1–1. The playing field and scoreline remained level from that point until Lia Kilgore (San Francisco/Mission HS) rocketed a cross into the box midway through the second overtime.

Levy got position in front of a Bulldog defender and was able to score from the doorstep, leaving SWOSU goalkeeper Kristyn Dill no chance.
It's worth noting that both Dill and Otter keeper Alyssa Noh (Aliso Niguel HS) played solid games, with each making key stops to get the match to overtime. In the end, however, the Otters found a way.

THE MATCH WAS OVER WHEN… Sierra Levy finished a perfect Lia Kilgore cross from the doorstep in the 105th minute.

KILGORE IS CLUTCH… The Otters have three golden goal victories this season, and Lia Kilgore has figured prominently in each of them. Kilgore score the OT winner via a PK against Hawaii–Hilo; she roofed a brilliant one–timer to beat Western Oregon and set–up Levy's winner Friday.

WORKING OVERTIME… The Otters have three overtime victories in 2019. That already ties the 2012 squad for the most overtime victories in a season in program history.

STILL UNBEATEN… CSUMB is off to its best start ever, finishing nonconference play at 5–0–1. That also breaks the program record for longest unbeaten streak (six matches). The 2017 team was unbeaten in five straight (2–0–3) from Sept. 6–17, 2017.

LEADERS OF THE RAFT… GOALS: Sierra Levy/Maya Richardson 1; ASSISTS: Lia Kilgore/Sophia Zertuche 1; POINTS: Sierra Levy/Maya Richardson 2; SHOTS: Lia Kilgore/Sierra Levy 2; SAVES: Alyssa Noh 11.

THE LAST WORD… "We continue to gain experience each and every game.  We are getting big contributions from multiple players and the depth and culture is fantastic right now. Credit to a really talented SWOSU team. They will win a lot of games this year." – CSUMB Head Coach Laura VanWart

THEY'VE GOT NEXT… The Otters open CCAA play next week when they host Cal State San Marcos Friday (Sept. 27) for a doubleheader. The women will kick off at 4:30 p.m. and the men will kickoff at 7 p.m.
